How to play a video at a funeral or will reading
A short checklist for the person asked to play the recording, so it works the first time.
If you were asked to be the Playbearer
You have been trusted with something precious. Here is how to make it go smoothly.
Ahead of time
- Talk to the venue. Ask what equipment they have: a screen, a projector, speakers. Ask how a video is usually played there and who runs it.
- Download it. Download the recording to a laptop or a USB stick before the day, in case the internet is poor. Keep a second copy on your phone.
- Test the sound. A voice that cannot be heard is the most common problem. Play it through the room's speakers.
- Decide when. Many families play it near the beginning, after a eulogy, or at the end. Ask the person leading the service.
On the day
- Use full screen. On a phone, turn it sideways for video.
- Keep the screen from going to sleep.
- Give the room a moment of quiet before and after.
At a will reading
Check with whoever is leading the meeting before you play it. A recording is a keepsake and does not change a will.
If something goes wrong
Don't worry. Your private link works on any phone, any time, and you can play it again once the room is ready.
Ready to leave yours?
It takes about fifteen minutes, and you can change it any time.
